Islamabad: Intelligence agencies asking Information Minister Senator Pervez Rashid to limit his political activities and movement have sought increased security for the minister, sources revealed.

The recent remarks made by the federal minister against religious parties have caused an outrage amongst the Ulema, religious leaders and students studying in seminaries against the minister.

Addressing a national conference organized by the Pakistan Academy of Letters in Karachi on May 3, the minister described the seminaries as ‘centers of ignorance and illiteracy.’

In view of this situation, the intelligence agencies have warned the minister to increase his security to avoid any back lash. He has also been asked to avoid public gatherings.

It merits mentioning that in the past also former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer and Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti were assassinated for speaking against Ulema and blasphemy law.
