A 66-year-old under-trial prisoner died under mysterious circumstance here in central jail here on Sunday. The District and Sessions judge has assigned Judicial Magistrate Nasir Mehmood to carry out a judicial inquiry into the incident.

As per details, 66-year-old Abdul Jabbar was arrested in case number 173/2016-302 and was imprisoned in Central Jail Sahiwal. He fell unconscious Saturday night and was taken to District Headquarter Hospital where he breathed his last in the Cardiac Ward. The Farid Town Police handed over the body to his heirs after post-mortem.

The Judicial magistrate has started inquiry.

In another incident, a businessman Abid who was shot at and critical injured by robbers near Chak 111/9L, succumbed to his wounds in hospital here on Sunday.

Abid was on the way to his village Chak 111/9L on the night of May 9. On the way, robbers intercepted him and attempted to snatch his bike near Jehan Khan area. However, he put up resistance at which the robbers fired gunshot on him. He was taken to hospital in critical where he fought for life for seven days but could not survive. The Yousafwala Police registered a case under sections 394-397 and 302 against unidentified robbers.

Meanwhile, a speeding tractor-trolley crushed a motorcyclist near Chak 77/5L on Bonga Hayat Road. Muzamil, 26, was going to Sahiwal on a motorcycle when the tractor-trolley hit him. He sustained injuries and was taken to hospital where he died.
