KARACHI - City administration has decided to initiate repairing work of dilapidated roads of the city as Sindh government has issued Rs300million for the development work.

This was stated by Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui during a meeting at his office, attended by KMC's Director Technical and Services Niaz Soomro, Director Planning and Development Syed Shakaib Ahmed and others.

The meeting informed that Sindh government has released a fund of Rs300million regarding development of city's infrastructure. The meeting has decided to initiate work of repairing and carpeting of dilapidated roads in city. Director Technical and Services Niaz Soomro was given briefing about the development plan and said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would start repairing work on around 28 roads in its respective jurisdiction. He said that KMC will also install street lights. The meeting also decided to start work for beautification at Mehran Highway by removing encroachment and planting trees.

During the meeting it was decided to launch awareness drive regarding cleanliness surrounding Mehran Highway. Worldwide Fund will launch the drive with financial support by Industrial Associations. Commissioner Karachi has task KMC for tree plantation at Mehran Highway.

Commissioner Karachi presided another meeting along with Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Hashim Raza Zaidi, Water Hydrants In-Charge Rashid Siddiqui and office bearers of All Karachi Water Tanker Association. The meeting has decided to setup underground water hydrants for water crisis in the city. Commissinor Karachi said that the provincial government is taking all measures to curb the water shortage in the city and local bodies Minister has directed the officials to utilise all resources in this regard. He asked All Karachi water tanker Association to take back the strike call. He further assured officials of tanker association that government will accept all legal demands.

Prayers for rain: Prayers for rain, Namaz-e-Istisqa, was offered on Monday in various part of city.

According to details various organisation including political parties organised special prayers for rain at different venues.

Karachi chapter Jamaat-e-Islami organised the special prayers at Hub dam. Prayer were offered behind Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman while former city Nazim Advocate Naimtuallh in special prayers urged for forgiveness as they have failed to perform their duties.

Speaking on the occasion, JI Karachi Chief said that government announced K-4 in year 2006 and it is unfortunate that rulers have failed to start the project till now. He demanded government to take the issue seriously and make effective measures to provide relief to masses.

Similarly, special prayers for rain was organised at the request of SITE association chairman Younus M Bashir. Earlier, Zuhr prayers were offered behind Mufti Naeem Sahib. On this occasion, M Zubair Motiwala, former Chairman, Ahsan Arshad Ayub, Senior Vice Chairman of SITE Association as well as Iqbal Lakhani and other industrialists of SITE also participated in the Namaz-e-Istisqa.

It is pertinent to mention here that water supply to many parts of city remained suspended while water storage had reached dead level in Hub Dam as the Dam is completely dependant on the rainwater.
