PESHAWAR - Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao asked federal government to take conducive measures to further normalise bilateral and trade relations with Afghanistan.

While addressing separate corner meetings at Union Council Harichand and Zaim Rest House in district Charsadda on Sunday, he said that governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan have to remove the hurdles and problems that are affecting cross-border trade volume between the two neighbouring countries.

Aftab Sherpao said that the issue of tariffs, illegal trade gateways and ban on access to duty-free markets were few obstacles that are hampering smooth flow of trade volume between the two states. He demanded of both governments to ensure the efficient and effective administration of transit transportation between and through transit transport corridor.

“Business community of both countries has been facing enormous problems due to non-availability of prompt facilities at registration points and unnecessary security check-posts on the trade route. “Pakhtuns on both sides of the border have suffered due to persistent waves of extremism and terrorism since 1980s. Lasting Peace and prosperity can be achieved in the region if both the countries revitalize economic indicators through an organized and systematic channel,” Aftab Sherpao hinted.

Talking about the importance of local government elections, he said that LG polls play a vital role in strengthening democratic norms in the country. He emphasized people to vote for the right person for the right job in the upcoming elections scheduled on May 30.
