GUJRANWALA/SIALKOT - Pemra teams continued the crackdown on cable operators airing Indian TV channels in different areas of the region.

In Gujranwala, a Pemra team uprooted an illegal TV channels net work and arrested two accused while dozens of dishes, receivers, rooters and other tools have been seized.

Briefing the media men here, Pemra Regional manager Khurram Siddiqui informed that the net work has been involved in airing Indian and other banned channels not only in Pakistan but also in Gulf countries through sea line and IP,TV while IP license has only been issued to the state-run PTV. About campaign against cable operators airing Indian channels, he claimed that the Pemra teams have issued notices to 15 cable operators for violation of Pemra rules in the region. In Sialkot, special Pemra teams sealed office of five cable operators in Maraakiwal-Sialkot, Merajkey-Pasrur, Uggoki and Sambrial for airing Indian TV channels despite a ban by the government.

According to Inspector Qaiser Shehzad Tarar, the cable TV operators were found airing Indian TV channels during raids by Pemra inspection teams. The Pemra teams also seized all the UPSs, TVs, Computers, laptops and electrical appliances from the offices, besides, sending recommendations to Pemra high-ups for early cancellation of licenses of the accused cable operators.
