ISLAMABAD - The elections of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) federal chapter will be held today (Tuesday). The nominations for 10 top positions, including the slots of chairman and president, were received here yesterday by Chief Election Commissioner for these intra-party elections, Ch Jaffar Iqbal.

The nomination papers for the slot of party president were filed on behalf of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by Kh Saad Rafique and other central party leaders. Some insiders in the party informed that a party activist from Balochistan has also filed his nomination papers for the slot of central president besides Prime Minister Nawaz.

Ch Jaffar Iqbal, who had also served as deputy speaker National Assembly, informed that the elections would be held for the top 10 slots while the rest on the rest of the positions would be filled by the newly-elected president of the party as per the party constitution.

He, however, did not confirm the number of nomination papers filed by various candidates against these slots. The process of scrutiny would be done in the morning while after giving the time to candidates for withdrawal of their papers the final list of the candidates would be displayed at 10.00am. The elections would be held at the convention centre.

Before the elections process the Central Council of the party would grant approval to the various resolutions adopted by the Central Working Committee of the party while the Central Council would also ratify some amendments proposed in the constitution of the party. In the second session of the Central Council, the elections, if required, would be held as most likely the candidates against these slots would come unopposed as remained the practice in the past.

A source in the party informed that the party leaders were out to appease the party activist from Balochistan who had filed nomination papers against the prime minister for the slot of central president and hopefully he would withdraw his papers in favour of Nawaz Sharif. Most likely the slots of chairman and secretary general would also be filled unopposed. Talking to media after filing the nomination papers on behalf of the prime minister Federal Railways Minister Kh Saad Rafique came down hard on Imran Khan and his way of politics.

He said that Imran believed in politics of disruption and now the people of Pakistan after witnessing his 126 days sit-in in Federal Capital have realised that he (Imran Khan) was out to derail the country from road to progress and prosperity.

He said that Khan wanted to become prime minister of the country by hook or by crook, and to accomplish his goal he could go to any extent.

He made it loud and clear that Imran was bound to fail as the people would not let him derail the democracy and despite all his negative activities the institutions would continue to deliver and under the guidance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif they would meet all the promises made with them by the culmination of PML-N mandated term in 2018.
