Islamabad - The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad police has arrested seven persons, including six women, for their alleged involvement in looting houses and also recovered gold ornaments and cash from their possession.

A police team supervised by DSP CIA arrested the gang and also recovered stolen valuables including gold necklace, earrings and cash Rs 35,000 from their possession. They confessed to loot various houses in areas of Sabzi Mandi, Golra and Karachi Company police stations. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police have arrested 1,641 criminals involved in different criminal cases during the ongoing year, besides recovery of looted items worth Rs 362.8 million from their possession, said local police.

During the current year, 157 persons were nabbed for their alleged involvement in murder cases.

In all, 513 dacoits involved in 285 cases were arrested, besides recovery of looted items worth Rs 55.3 million from them while 793 accused of burglary cases involved in 499 cases were also nabbed and police recovered valuables worth Rs 93.4 million from them.

During the period, 196 car thieves and snatchers were nabbed and 115 vehicles and 68 motorbikes were recovered from them.

A total of 90 tampered vehicles were recovered while 2,766 proclaimed offenders and 761 courts absconders were also nabbed during the aforesaid period. A spokesman of the local police claimed that the crime rate in Islamabad has gone down in the recent days.
