Ushna advances in Lagos Challenger

LAHORE - Pakistan's world ranked player Ushna suhail thrashed South African player Warona Mdlulwa to advance in the Lagos Challenger singles on Monday. According to Ushna’s father Khawaja Suhail, the Pakistan female champion played superb tennis against the South African opponent and never allowed her to bounce back. Ushna conceded just one point in the first set while in the second set, she fully outclassed her winning the match convincingly by 6-1, 6-0. Ushna has recently beaten the same player in Egypt after a close contest at 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. Talking to The Nation, Ushna said: "Winning the match with such a margin from same player makes me more confident for the next round. Pakistan Int’l $6000 Series Badminton

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan International $6000 Series Badminton Tournament 2016 will roll into action today (Tuesday) here at Liaqat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex. Teams from seven countries including hosts Pakistan will vie for top honours in men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies singles, ladies doubles, team event and mixed doubles. Addressing a press conference, Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) secretary Wajid Ali, along with Perviaz Butt, Tayyab Saleem and Zafar, announced that the event was duly recognised by International and Asian Badminton Federations, in which Canada, Iraq, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Syria and hosts Pakistan would be seen in action from October 18 to 22. “I am grateful to PSB DG Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera for supporting us holding the international event after a gap of more than 8 years.”–Staff Reporter

 

 

 

Disabled cricket team leaves for Dubai

ISLAMABAD - The 22-member squad of Pakistan disabled cricket will leave for Dubai today (Tuesday) to compete in the ICC Academy PD T20 International Cricket Tournament starting from October 20. Pakistan will begin their campaign with a round game against England on Oct 20. Captain Jahanzaib said: “I am confident that Pakistan team will give the positive result, as we are capable of winning the title.” Head coach Sabih Azhar said his players were well prepared for the competition. “We will play positive cricket to achieve good results. We also thank PCB ICRC and PDCA president Saleem Karim for the financial support and grateful to sponsor Matador for providing cricket gears to us.” Pakistan squad comprises Jahanzaib Tiwana (capt), Nihar Alam (vc), Hasnain Alam, Rao Javed, M Matloob, M Danish, Rehan Ghani Mirza, Abdullah Ijaz, Zubair Saleem, Fayyaz Ahmed, Wajid Alam, Adil Abbasi, Sher Ali, M Shabaz, Farhan Saeed. 19 matches decided in Ranking Tennis

ISLAMABAD - As many as 19 matches were decided in the 1st Chairman POF Board National Ranking Tennis Championship being played at Ordinance Club, Wah Cannt. Raja Shahid, Asadullah, Talha Bin Asif, Hameed-ul-Haq, Tahirullah Khan, Yousaf Khan, Rashid Khan and Adnan Rashid Khan qualified for the men’s singles main round after winning qualifying round matches. Aman Atiq stunned 5th seed Mudassar Murtaza in the men’s singles first round match in straight sets, winning it 7-5 and 6-3. Aman played quality tennis from the baseline and hit a number of winners down the line and didn’t allow Mudassar to settle down in the match. Earlier, the opening ceremony of the tournament was held. DICR & Member POF Board Wah Cantt Tabasum Rehman Rehan was the chief guest on the occasion, while POF Sports Board president Dr Aamir Murad, secretary Asad Durrani and other dignitaries were also present at the opening ceremony.–Staff Reporter
