LONDON:- The results of a public vote for a Victoria Wood memorial statue in her home town of Bury are due to be revealed later. Two of her best-loved characters are in the running - Bren from Dinner Ladies and Kimberley’s friend. The star’s brother, Chris Foote Wood, launched a campaign in July to erect a life-size sculpture of the entertainer. The online vote via Bury Council closed at midday on Monday. Wood died of cancer in April at the age of 62. The most recent result showed Bren in the lead with 60% of the vote. It cost £2 to cast a vote. The statue will be a solid bronze piece costing £30,000, including the price of casting and transporting the memorial.

Foote Wood has already raised £22,423, including a £1,000 donation from Dame Judi Dench, via a crowdfunding appeal. He said: “From the start I wanted Victoria’s fans to choose which character they would like to see portrayed.”
