Punjab Governor Makhdum Ahmad Mehmud on Thursday said that every body should respect the judiciary and its decisions.

“The PPP has sacrificed its prime minister only to show obedience to the Supreme Court verdict”, he said while taking to reporters after addressing the participants of international seminar and the special exhibition on the “Glorious Sikh Heritage” held at Lahore Fort in connection with Annual Festival of Vesakhi.

He was asked to comment on former President Pervaiz Musharrf’s act of escaping from the court premises on Thursday after cancellation of his pre-arrest bail.

“The law must take its course”, he observed.

Earlier, addressing the seminar organised by Dyal Singh Research and Cultural Forum, the governor said we have to strive to make our country a land of peace and convince the world that Pakistan was the country where religious tolerance, unity and fraternity were valued.  He said Pakistan’s stability and integrity was co-related with the continuity of democracy. “It is good omen that for the first time in the political history of Pakistan that we are entering democracy through democracy”, he added.

Later, addressing launching ceremony of book titled “Hesab-e-Hayat” authored by Mr. Sultan Ali Chaudhry at Governor House, Makhdum said that only those nations and countries achieved their goals and targets where good governance was given preference over nepotism, favoritism and mismanagement.  A four-member delegation of APTMA headed by Mr. Gohar Ejaz called on the governor. Expressing grave concern over massive loadsheding of electricity and Sui Gas in Punjab, the delegation briefed the governor about the deteriorating situation facing by Punjab Industries due to energy and gas crises.  The governor assured the delegation that he will take up this issue on top priority and will discuss the same with the caretaker prime minister.
