SHEIKHUPURA - More than 260 green tractors will be distributed to small farmers to promote agriculture in the district, said District Coordination Officer Asad Rehman.

He was presiding over a meeting on Saturday. Executive District Officer (Agriculture) Abdul Ghafoor Anjum and District Officer Agriculture Extension Muhammad Yaseen were also present. The DCO disclosed that the farmers who have 2.5 acre land could apply for tractors and the winners of the draw have to deposit Rs300,000 for booking a tractor.

However, the Punjab government will give a subsidy of Rs200,000 on the original cost of tractor. He added in this connection, 263 tractors would be distributed in five tehsils of the district Sheikhupura after receiving application. Thus, the farmers will enjoy benefits of the facility and increase their per acre yield.

He explained 120 tractors will be distributed in tehsil Sheikhupura, 24 tractors in Safdarabad tehsil, 51 tractor in Ferozewala, 50 in Muridke and 18 in Sharqpur while the last date for submission of forms is August 31 in the office of Assistant Commissioner.
