LAHORE – The City remained in the grip of sultry weather on Saturday with experts predicting the prevailing conditions to persist during the next 24 hours.

Abundance of sunshine, high humidity and lack of winds made the weather oppressive, causing the Lahorites to sweat profusely throughout the day.

On Saturday, the maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded at 38 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 93 per cent.

The Lahore Canal, as usual, attracted a large number of people, including women and children. Not only youth but also the elderly were seen bathing in the Canal. At certain places, even women were seen beating the heat by taking a dip in the mud-coloured Canal water.

According to experts, a seasonal low lies over Balochistan with its trough extending eastwards, while monsoon currents are penetrating upper and central parts of the country.

The local meteorological department has forecast mainly hot and humid weather for most parts of the country. However, rains are expected at isolated places in Islamabad / Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Hazara divisions, as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
