PESHAWAR - In order to foil any terror bid in the provincial metropolis on Eid-ul-Fitr, Peshawar city police have chalked out a major security plan, according to which special duties would be assigned to police personnel who would ensure security of mosques and Imam Bargah.

Heavy contingent of police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) would be deployed on famous mosques, Imam Barghas and other important public points so as to foil any untoward incident during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr. Talking to journalists, Assistant Superintend of Police, Cantt, Fesal Shehzad said that around 5,000 troops would be deployed at different routes of Peshawar.

He said that after the fresh attacks of militants, security of Peshawar has been beefed up.

Policemen will perform duties on roads, busy shopping centres and other sensitive buildings during three days of Eid celebration.” Two to three police jawans would perform duty outside the big mosques of the city while police officials in plain cloths would also be deputed keep close watch over suspected elements inside mosques during big congregations of Eid prayer.

During the three days of Eid, police have to remained guard relentlessly to ensure security to citizens to peacefully celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, which came after strict fastening.

Special duties have been assigned to city police while their holidays have been cancelled to perform duties on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Special focus would be given to parks where Eid Millas would be set up. These public parks include Colonel Sher Khan Stadium, Khalid Park, Bagh Naran and Tatara Park because people from the far-flung areas visiting these parks for enjoyment. Police have also erected road barriers on main Saddar Road to check the entry of the suspected persons.

All the SHO have been directed to perform active duty on each of their stations city roads and checking the vehicles thoroughly and made special focus on the movement of the suspected person in their areas.

The police high ups were also patrolling in their vehicles to review the security arrangements in city. The main entry points of Saddar and cantonment have been closed for general traffic. The pedestrians have been suggested to use outside parks, as entry along with vehicles to busy shopping centers would be bane during Eid days. Likewise Qissa Khawani and Khyber Bazar have also been blocked for general traffic aimed to foil any major sabotaging bid.

It is to be mentioned here that in the wake of possible operation in North Waziristan Agency, Peshawar would be again targeted at the hand of militants as they have warned the government to launch fresh attacks if they followed the US dictation regarding operation in North Waziristan Agency.
