ISLAMABAD - Although the government has formed a parliamentary committee on All Parties Conference (APC) to oversee the implementation of the earlier resolution as well as the recent resolution passed in APC, yet the committee members from opposition parties are not comfortable to see committee under the chairmanship of a member from treasury benches. The committee was also ostensibly felt losing its significance and charm after taking up the different matters in the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting. However, it has also been decided in this parliamentary committee meeting of APC that, while setting the terms of reference, overlapping would be avoided. PML-N had not attended any of the committee's meetings so far, and it was also likely that the committee would witness its next meetings in the presence of PML-N members. The other members of the committee from opposition were not comfortable for appointing Raja Pervez Ashraf as the committee's chairman, sources privy to the committee have shared with TheNation. When contacted, PML-F's Khuda Bux Rajar said that he was not much optimistic about the working of the committee. The government was forming committee upon committee but it was not bearing fruit, he said. A number of attempts were made to seek the comments of PML-N members, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan and Khwaja Asif, but they were not available. It is relevant to mention here that before the formation of the committee PML-N had time and again criticized PPP-led government for delaying to constitute the committee. In the 36th national assembly session, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan had raised concerns over the delay in the constituting the committee, saying that the NA session was going to adjourn but the parliamentary committee had not been constituted yet. In response to him, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, in the national assembly, had said that it was now up to parliament to expedite the nomination process, as the matter had been referred to the speaker. On it, the national assembly secretariat had written separate letters to the party leaders including Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan from PML-N, Asfand Yar Wali from ANP, Maulana Fazalur Rahman from JUI-F, Faisal Saleh Hayat from PML-Q, Munir Orakzai, parliamentary leader of MNAs from FATA and others. Later on, a committee under the chairmanship of Raja Pervez Ashraf was constituted with the members including Sherry Rehman, Dr Ayatullah Durrani, Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Dr Attiya Inayatullah, Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi, Bushra Gohar, Maulana Attaur Rehman, Haji Khuda Bux Rajar and Munir Khan Orakzai. As per the thirteenth point - last point of resolution of APC - of the resolution 'a parliamentary committee be formed to oversee the implementation of earlier resolutions as well as this resolution and progress on the same be made public on monthly basis'.
