ISLAMABAD - National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Pakistan Army registered victories after beating their respective opponents in the 8th Pakistan Premier Football League 2011 matches played here at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex on Sunday. In the first match NBP stunned Navy 2-0. NBP started the match in a whirlwind manner and put the Navy defence under the sword right from the start and seamen were facing difficulty to cope with the barrage of bankers attacks. NBP dominated the first half but remained unsuccessful to break the deadlock and the half ended with 0-0. In the second half NBP boosted the tempo of game and were duly rewarded through midfielder Waseem Qadir, who managed to give his team a deserving lead in the 52nd minute. Navy tried to put up a fight but they remained unable to match the pace and ball positioning of NBP, even seamen ace player Nomi Martin was looking off colour against a resilient NBP team, who were looking on a mission. NBP doubled their lead in the 71st minute through striker Attique Ullah and take away game from the Navy reach. By the time referee blew the final whistle NBP were leading by 2-0 and thus won the match 2-0. In the second match of the day, Army managed to snatch 1-0 victory against Karachi Electricity Supply Cooperation, thanks to their ace striker Shakeel Yousaf who sent the ball in the net in the 86h minute. Army despite dominating the entire match were finding it difficult to score as KESC defence did not allow them to score. Army were lucky enough that KESC striker missed a sitter, when he was left with only goalkeeper to beat and instead of putting the ball in to the empty net, he sent the ball in to the side netting. Shakeel provided his team a much deserving goal and Army came out as victors to claim all the points.
