Rawalpindi-The Rawal Town Municipal Administration along with local police will conduct an anti-encroachment operation in Raja Bazaar and its adjoining areas after the city has been facing the worst traffic jam, informed sources on Monday.

The decision for anti-encroachment operation was taken during a meeting held under chair of Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Nasim Ahmed Khan at RTMA. The meeting was also attended by TMO RTMA, Assistant Commissioners including Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, DSPs of Traffic City and Waris Khan Circle and officers of local police.

According to sources, Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Nasim Ahmed Khan, taking notice of the traffic jam in the city, has ordered officials of RTMA and local police to carry out grand operation against encroachments at City Saddar Road, Liaquat Road, Iqbal Road and Ganjmandi to facilitate vehicle-owners and pedestrians. Following the mayor’s instructions, RTMA has finalized all the arrangements for removing encroachments from roads. They said the local police would assist the enforcement department officials of RTMA whereas ACs and TMO would also monitor the operations. Similarly, the officials of city traffic police would also lift the vehicles parked in no-parking areas.

Lamenting the mess created by the loading vehicles on City Saddar Road, they said it would be shifted to bank of Nullah Leh and the drivers would only be allowed to drive on that road when they have to load luggage for transporting it from one to another place. Heavy fines would also be imposed on the encroachers and those showing resistance would be sent behind bars for 72 hours.
