ISLAMABAD - A petition challenging the appointment of Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was moved in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday.

Petitioner Nasim Arshad Rana moved the court through his counsel Barrister Gohar Ali and challenged appointment of Dr Syed Ismail Shah as chairman PTA. In his petition, the petitioner cited Federation of Pakistan, Secretary Establishment, and Chairman PTA as respondents and contended that the appointment of Chairman PTA is in violation of PTA Act. He argued that chairman PTA could not be appointed without appointing the required numbers of members of PTA.

The counsel maintained that this appointment is also against the directions of Supreme Court since the apex court had instructed to appoint the heads of all semi-government organisations through a competent commission. Therefore, he prayed the court to declare the appointment of Chairman PTA as null and void.

It is pertinent to mention here that the petitioner was also a candidate for the office of chairman PTA.
