LAHORE - The LHC Chief Justice on Thursday directed the Inspector General Police Punjab (IGP) to assign a SP rank officer of provincial Crimes Department for investigating a case against a journalist of Gujranwala. The case was registered against the journalist namely Shahid Munir on the charges of filming an incident of flogging and humiliation of an old man for a second time only for the sake of his news channel. An additional advocate general on Thursday placed an inquiry report conducted by a special team formed by Chief Minister Punjab. The report confirms that the said journalist made a retake of the incident after one day only to air on his news channel. The report also added that the conduct of the Gujranwala police had been offensive against the said journalist. According to details, accused Muhammad Alam, Tanveer, Jahangir, Atif and Nadeem of village Jaboki, Gujranwala criminally trespassed into the house of their opponent Younas. They blacked the face of Younas, undressed him, put chains and dragged in the village to teach him a lesson for getting registered a case of dacoity against them (accused). The accused persons also insulted the women of the family. The CJ had taken the notice of the incident and summoned the police concerned of Gujranwala. SP Investigation Gujranwala Muhammad Usman appearing before the court told that three accused had been arrested while two were still at large. Chief Justice Khawaja Sharif disposed of the suo moto case while directing the IGP to get the investigation of case registered against the journalist by a SP rank officer. In this case, the CJ had already restrained the media group of the said journalist to stop harassment and vilification campaign against Regional Police Officer Gujranwala Zulfiqar Cheema.
