islamabad - Well-known lawyer and television host Naeem Bokhari, who remained controversial during lawyers’ movement in 2007, yesterday announced to join Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) at an Iftar dinner hosted by him in honour of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Imran Khan arrived at Bokhari’s residence just before Iftar and held a brief meeting with Bokhari before the latter’s announcement to join PTI.

While talking to media persons, Bokhari said that he was an old soldier of Khan for a long time. He asked his affiliates to join PTI.

Imran Khan welcoming the decision of the lawyer said that Bokhari had helped him in fundraising for his cancer hospital even when he was not a part of PTI. Bokhari will be helpful in making successful the party’s movement against corruption, he said.

On issue of Panama Leaks, Khan said that corruption was the biggest issue of Pakistan and if Sharif family did not commit any misappropriation, why it is fearful of accountability. He said that the government had still time to make ToRs meaningful to investigate Panama Leaks.

Naeem Bokhari, a senior advocate of Supreme Court had become controversial back in 2007 when he wrote an open letter to then President and military ruler Pervez Musharraf, levelling allegations of misuse of authority against the then Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

On the basis of this letter, Musharraf depose then CJ and his action provoked legal fraternity to start a movement for restoration of Iftikhar Chaudhry. The lawyers in the presence of police had attacked and beaten Bokhari to show their resentment on his letter.
