Rawalpindi - A shopkeeper along with his nephew foiled an attempt of armed dacoity at Chungi # 22 and caught one out of four dacoits, informed sources yesterday.

The traders and security guards tortured the dacoit and handed him over to police. A dacoity case was registered against the accused identified as Saqib with Police Station RA Bazaar, sources added.

According to sources, four dacoits arrived on two motorcycles and one of them entered Madni Minhas Store located at Chungi # 22 in disguise of customer and demanded cigarette pack from the shopkeeper. Meanwhile, two other dacoits came and pointed guns at the shopkeepers and demanded cash, sources said. Suddenly, Abdul Haq, a shopkeeper, pounced upon a dacoit and snatched his pistol whereas the two other dacoits ran out of the shop. Later, the three dacoits escaped on a motorcycle. Within no time, the traders and two security guards also reached the scene and started beating the dacoit.

Later, police were called in and the dacoit was given into the custody of police, sources said.

A police official of PS RA Bazaar told The Nation that a case under section 392 of PPC has been registered against the dacoit namely Saqib on complaint of Abdul Haq and started investigation. He added that police have also obtained two days of physical remand of the accused from the court of Magistrate Ghulfam Latif. He informed that police also recovered a motorcycle and a mobile phone from the accused.

In a separate incident, police arrested a military man on charges of kidnapping a five-year-old girl, allegedly over land dispute with the parents of the girl, reliable sources disclosed to The Nation yesterday.

Hawaldar Muhammad Fayyaz along with his wife allegedly abducted the girl. However, the wife of accused military man was yet to be arrested. Police registered a kidnapping case against the couple. The detained girl has been recovered.

Accused Hawaldar Muhammad Fayyaz belongs to Army Medical Corps (AMC) and was serving in Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Multan. He was later given into custody of Military Police, sources added.

According to sources, a citizen Sanaullah Malik of Adiala Road area appeared before Police Station Saddar Bairooni officials and lodged a complaint that he along with his wife was standing outside his house while their little daughter Fatima was playing with other children when Muhammad Fayyaz and his wife Shabana came on motorcycle and kidnapped his daughter and sped away towards Dhama Morr. He added that the reason behind kidnapping of his daughter was a land dispute between him and the kidnappers. He appealed to the police to recover her daughter from the captivity of the kidnappers. He also sought legal action against the kidnappers.

Taking action, police lodged a kidnapping case under section 363 against Fayyaz and his wife Shabana and started investigation, sources said.

Station House Officer Malik Muhammad Yar, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said that police had apprehended the kidnapper and recovered the abducted girl from his custody. He said that police first intimated the unit of military man about his crime. The JCO of the unit concerned sent MP to police station. Later Fayyaz was handed over to Military Police for further investigation.

The girl has been reunited with her family while the wife of the accused has obtained pre-arrest bail, he said.
