LONDON (AFP) Newcastle breezed past Scunthorpe 3-0 on Wednesday to go 12 points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest in the Championship and take another huge step closer to a Premier League return. Andy Carroll struck two goals to take his tally for the season to 14 while Peter Lovenkrands also went to 14 for the campaign when he found the net in the 22nd minute St James Park. The win restored Newcastles four-point advantage over second-placed West Brom and left them needing a maximum of 15 points from their remaining 10 games to clinch promotion. Scunthorpe arrived on Tyneside as only one of four sides to beat Newcastle in the Championship this season, and that reverse on October 20 appeared to galvanise Chris Hughtons men, who had lost just one of the 22 league games they had contested since.
