MULTAN-The Bahauddin Zakariya University handed the selection notifications to 34 winners of Yousuf Raza Gillani foreign scholarships here on Friday.

The ceremony was chaired by BZU Vice Chancellor Prof Tahir Ameen.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC said that all the winners of the scholarships have been selected on merit and the HEC has given approval for the grant of these scholarships. He emphasised on the scholarship-holders to get maximum benefit of this opportunity and play their role for the progress and prosperity of the country after completing their education abroad.

The scholarships have been granted under faculty development programme and teachers from different disciplines will go abroad for pursuing PhD studies.

The chairman of scholarship committee Dr Bashir Ahmad, Director academic Prof Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Dr Hassan Bucha and others were also present on this occasion.

COACHES ACADEMY

Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas has said that the establishment of cricket academies will prove a milestone in promotion of sports in the country.

Talking to the media after inaugurating cricket coaches academy here at divisional sports ground on Friday, he added that it was the fourth cricket academy after Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Lahore. He said that the cricket academies would help promote young talent.

He said that the government took a number of steps for the promotion of sports in the country as a result of which sports culture got developed and new talent was discovered. HE said that the soil of Multan had produced a number of heroes and it would continue to give the country heroes in coming days. He said that the future of the sports was bright in Pakistan and if law and order situation improved international events would also return to the country.

Speaking on this occasion, Director General Sports Punjab Zulfiqar Ahmad Ghumman declared that more academies would be set up in the province. He added that the motive behind setting up academies was to offer platform to the youth from rural and urban areas of the province to show their talent. He said that extremist behaviours could be de-escalated by promoting sports activities in the society. He said that the Punjab Government had launched a big project to promote sports in the province and playgrounds across the province were being set up for this purpose.

Earlier, legendary cricketer inaugurated Zahir Abbas inaugurated the coaching academy.
