JHANG-The death of a man sparked protest against the police as the bereaved family blocked road and locked gates of DHQ Hospital, demanding stern action against the police official(s).

According to the bereaved family, dacoits looted Rs4.2 million from a distribution shop in the remit of Kutwali Police two weeks back. However on a sneak suspicion, the police arrested Jahangir, security guard at the distribution shop. According to the bereaved family, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Yaqoob of Police-Post Ali Abad, tortured Jahangir severely and later threw him in front of his home in critical condition. The family rushed him to DHQ Hospital Jhang where he breathed his last. Following Jahangir’s death, hundreds of people including the bereaved family members, relatives and locals, staged a protest against police in front of the DHQ hospital. They burnt tyres and locked main gates of the hospital. Chanting slogans against the police, the protesters blocked Gojra-Jhang Road for all kind of traffic, demanding stern action against the police official(s). Later, ADC Awais Malik along with AC Shahid Abbas Joyia and DSP Saifullah Bhatti held negotiation with the protesters and assured them that the police officials found involved in the incident would be brought to the book. At which the protesters dispersed. The Kutwali Police have registered a case against SI Yaqoob under section 302/148/149.
