ISLAMABAD Arrival of Babar Awan at the Supreme Court building on Monday surprised many and the media persons were amazed to see that the Minister was warmly welcomed by President SCBA Qazi Anwar. Interestingly the President SCBA severely criticised the Government just two days ago and has flayed Babar Awan many times in TV talk shows and press briefings. The President Supreme Court Bar Association took the Minister straight away in his office and held meeting with him for half-an-hour. He not only greeted the Minister but also offered him his seat. The Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affair after the conclusion of judges notification case reached the SC and delivered Rs 1 million cheque to the SCBA President for the bar employees and announced Rs 4 million for its library. On the occasion the Minister also handed over 100 copies of the Constitution of Pakistan to the President SCBA. The legal experts say that Qazi Anwar should have not taken the cheque from the Minister at this moment. Later, both Qazi Anwar and Dr Babar Awan talked to the media. The President SCBA said, People in black coats are members of bar and we consider Babar Awan our member. Reciprocating Anwar, Dr Babar said Law Ministry was ready to sit with the bar councils and the association for the supremacy of the law and the Constitution. In the days to come you would see more interaction between the bars and the Law Ministry, he said, and added many issues facing the legal fraternity could be resolved through dialogue. He said for the quick disposal of cases in lower court the Ministry was working on a bill, which would be sent to the SCBA for their advice. Qazi Anwar said, I welcomed the Law Minister in my office, offered my seat but avoided to raise controversial issues as we want more interaction with the Law Ministry. The SCBA President said there was no clash with the Government and they would keep on raising voice for the independence of judiciary. He said there was no plan to wage a war against the Government. Regarding the reconciliation with the judiciary and executive, he said that judiciary was not a political party or allied party that dialogue should be held with it as PM wanted third partys intervention for dialogue with the judiciary. He said the Government should implement the courts order then there will be no need for dialogue. He said that they had no personal enmity with the Prime Minister and the President. Meanwhile, the lawyers belonging to Supreme Court Bar Association, Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, and Islamabad District Bar Association gathered at the Supreme Court building on Monday to express solidarity with the judiciary for its independence and rule of law. They also took out a rally at the Constitution Avenue in support of the judiciary warning the Government to restrain from any adventurism and unconstitutional step against the incumbent independent judiciary, which, they said, was restored after great sacrifices of legal fraternity.
