LAHORE - An alleged gambler was electrocuted to death, shortly after he jumped down from the top a multi-storey building and fell on the live-electric wires to escape arrest during police raid here in Ghalib Market area, police said on Monday. The deceased later identified as Waqar died on the spot while the police captured his five other accomplices when they tried to escape during the raid. However, one of the arrested alleged gambler rejected the police claim and said that they are labourers and were sleeping at the top of the plaza when the police raided. According to the police sources, one Tahir the owner of an under construction plaza situated near Main Market, contacted the police and disclosed that some people were busy in gambling at the top his plaza. As the police conducted the raid, the gamblers tried to flee and Waqar, the resident of Pattoki, fell on live electric wires seconds after he jumped down from the building. However, the police arrested his five accomplices. The arrested were identified as Arshad, Saleem, Ramzan, Akram and Muhammad Saleem. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating. Ashraf Javed
