LAHORE - The syndicate of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) has approved its budget of Rs 786.515 million for financial year 2010. The approval of the budget was given in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Prof Asad Aslam Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of KEMU, on Monday. Faisal Ismaili, treasurer of KEMU, presented the budget in the meeting. Over Rs 514.696 million was allocated for employees expenses, Rs 13.922 million for employees retirement benefits, Rs 31.388 million for scholarships and stipends for undergraduate and postgraduate students, Rs 3.5m for transport, Rs 38.46m for repairs and maintenance, Rs 11.75m for purchase of machinery and equipment, Rs 4m for building and structure, Rs 3.917m for purchase of computer equipment and Rs 20m for research. Prof Mehmood Shaukat, KEMU registrar, General (r) Muhammad Akram, Vice Chancellor UET, Dr Tahir Ali Javed, MPA, Dr Asad Ashraf, MPA, Dr Zahid Pervez MS Mayo Hospital, Dr Shagufta Zaidi, MS Lady Aitcheson Hospital, Dr Afzal Shaheen, MS Lady Willington Hospital, representatives of Finance, Education and Health Departments, Prof Munirul Haq, Prof Atiya Khalid, Prof Azhar Hameed, Prof Maaz Ahmad and Prof Atif Kazmi attended the meeting.
