LAHORE Pakistans national senior golf team for the Asia Pacific Seniors Golf Championship to be held at Bangkok from November 24 to 26 was announced by Pakistan Golf Federation here on Monday. The team was selected after three-day trials that concluded on Sunday at the Garrison Golf Course. Those selected on the basis of performance in the trials are Col(r) M. Shafi (Garrison), Brig. Nayyar Afzal(Pindi), Shafiq Bhatti(Gymkhana), Abdul Haq (Peshawar), Abdul Qayum Rashid (Punjab Police) and Taimur Hassan (Islamabad). While the first five earned a place to represent Pakistan after intense trials, Taimur Hassan was granted exemption as currently he is the national champion in seniors category. From a statistical point of view, Col Shafi topped the trials and quite a few luminaries amongst the aspirants could not make it which includes such established names as Shoaib Bokhari who was extremely unlucky to miss selection as he had a devastating last hole (a triple bogie) and Javed Khan, Col. Saud Khan, M. Azam Khan, Col M. Safi, and Fasih Ali Anwar. Concurrently, trials were also held to select the ladies team and the boys team in two age categories. Nushmiya Sukhera of Lahore Gymkhana topped in the race for selection amongst ladies and earned a place in the team. In the boys category -1, Mubraiz Ahmed of Karachi got selected and in the boys category-2, Aman Tariq of Islamabad made it to the team.
