LAHORE - The rulers should take concrete and practical steps for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui from the custody of the US if they want to stay in power, as the masses would not let the government runaway from their utmost responsibility of freedom of the daughter of the nation, says Dr Fowzia Siddiqui. Dr Fowzia, the sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui expressed these views while addressing a seminar organised by the JI Punjab chapter at a local hotel for the release of Dr Aafia on Monday. She said that she had started mass contact movement for the recovery of her sister from the custody of the Americans and the rulers should take practical measures for her release. She said that Aafia Siddiqui movement was aimed at saving the country from foreign influence, while it would not only safeguard Dr Aafia but it would also set an example for protecting the honour of Muslim women in Pakistan and across the world. She said that the statement, which Dr Aafia was compelled to utter in the US court was pack of lies and the American authorities had tortured the daughter of the nation and she possess proofs in this regard. Fowzia said that the US court had denied justice to her sister and its decision based on enmity against Islam. She appealed to Muslims of the entire world to get united under a single umbrella to free Dr Aafia from the clutches of the US. Meanwhile, Dr fowzia also visited the office of Islami Tehrik Talba Pakistan and addressed the office bearers and workers of the student organisation. She said that the Pervez Musharraf regime had sold out Dr Aafia to the US, while the incumbent government had also not taken any serious measures to rescue her sister from the hands of the US authorities. LHC directs govt to file reply The Lahore High Court again has directed the federal government to file till November 1 reply to a petition which grieves that the government officials intentionally failed to properly contest Dr Aafia Siddiqui case in the US Court which resulted in 86-year jail to Aafia on flimsy charges. One Rizvanul Almurtaza, through Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree has moved the petition against the federal government, the president, the prime minister, former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf and others under articles 204, 194, 2(A), 190 and 187 of the Constitution read with section 561 of CrPC. The petitioner alleged that respondents intentionally put up a weak defence through inexperienced counsel for Dr Aafia to mint money through commission. He said despite order by this court, case of Dr Aafia was not moved to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) where her case merit hearing and relief was readily available under the international law. He alleged that these respondents intentionally avoided it by not writing to the ICJ. He alleged that the ICJ was not moved as no monetary benefit was therein for them.
