LAHORE The third Inter-school and collegiate Games will be held from November 1 to 5 here at different venues of the city and preparations are underway with brisk pace. Addressing a press conference here Monday, Punjab Olympics Association President Syed Shahid Ali informed that around 170 schools and colleges of the province will be taking part in the five-day activity that will see over five to six thousand athletes in action. He said that a healthy aspect of the games is the participation of girls in the games which will have the following 20 disciplines: athletics, basketball, badminton, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, hockey, karate, tennis, rugby, rowing, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling, weightlifting, netball and volleyball. He further informed that RS 2.5 million will be spent on games and a request has been extended to the Punjab Government for approval. He further stated that Rs 5,000 each will be given to the best player of each discipline. Secretary PbOA Khawaja Idris said that provincial advisor Zulfiqar Khosa will declare the games open while chief secretary Nasir Mahmood Khosa will be the chief guest of the closing ceremony. He said that overall trophy will be given to boys and girls schools and colleges apart from individual prizes. March past will be rehearsed a day before the opening ceremony at the Punjab Stadium, he said. He further said that they were doing their best to lure in sponsors like Samsung which has agreed to support the 71st Punjab Games. Speaking on the occasion, Salman Ijaz, DG Punjab Sorts Board said that they had asked the government for the release of the funds for the games and the time the money is released, it will be spent on sporting events. We have also finalised the sporting calendar of the sports board and after approval of the sports secretary it will be launched, he added.
