ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Rehman Malik, on the directives of President and Prime Minister, has cancelled his US visit for participation in upcoming another round of the Pak-US Strategic Dialogue owing to the bad law and order situation in Karachi. Sources in the Ministry said that the Interior Minister had cancelled his visit after the recent rising incidents of target killings in Karachi and the MQMs decision to quit the coalition government due to the Karachi mayhem. The Interior Minister was scheduled to leave for US on Monday evening to attend the Strategic Dialogue being held from October 20 to 22 of this month. However, Malik had to leave for Karachi on the directives of the President in the wee hours of Monday along with Governor Sindh, Ishratul Ibad after the Governor met with President Asif Ali Zardari. The Governor Sindh had held a meeting with President on Sunday night after the MQM decided to part ways with the PPP-led coalition government and asked the Governor to quit his post. However, Federal Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry will participate in the Strategic Dialogue in US along with the Pakistani delegation.
