ISLAMABAD - Taking notice of gross violations in the appointment of community welfare attaches, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource to submit the list of successful candidates in order of merit and cancelled the approval of early summary dispatched to him.

Sources in the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource said that in sheer violation of merit, former secretary of the ministry had forwarded the list of candidates for appointment as community welfare attaches in various countries who were all far below in the merit list.

Later, those who had clinched top positions in the NTS test for these slots made hue and cry over this injustice to them. It was astonishing to note that these blue-eyed candidates, who were far low on the merit list, were not only got approved by the Prime Minister but were made approved by the Special Selection Board.

The officers who were top on the merit list had sent letters to the Prime Minister highlighting this highhandedness with them by the ministry.

The sources in the Prime Minister House said that Premier Sharif got infuriated on this breach of merit and returned back the summary cancelling its earlier approval with the direction to re-submit the summary taking care of the merit list.

But the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource was now contemplating to take the test and interview of all the candidates afresh ignoring the results of the NTS test conducted earlier.

When contacted Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Sardar Shafqat Hayat Baloch confirmed the Prime Minister annoyance over the issue and said that the ministry would conduct the selection for these slots afresh.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ministry had earlier ignored top 17 candidates in the NTS test and picked those far below on merit for filling the slots of community welfare attaches in Pakistan embassies in various countries.
