City District Government Lahore has launched a pilot project of keeping record of students by using IT system and informing parents through SMS services about attendance of children twice a day in public sector schools.

An IT chart of each student has also been prepared, which will reflect students’ educational history, leave history, medical history, etc. Three tablets for this purpose in four selected schools have been given to coordinators which would be supervised by IT teachers. Data of students and parents has been prepared. Each student would mark his attendance on tablet, which automatically would generate an SMS on the cell of student’s parents. Similarly, students’ leave record, medical history with details of cause of leave from school, and academic record will be maintained on daily basis.

The main objective of the service is to inform parents of the students about their performance and other activities through this service. Similarly the parents could also avail the service by sending SMS to school management for getting performance report of their children. Parent will be involved through this technology and this service would also help in removing barriers in communication gap between parents and teachers of school.

The service under such pilot project will be free of cost and it has been introduced for the first time in public schools. Initially the project is being launched on trial basis and will be introduced in four schools of provincial capital. The schools are Comprehensive Higher Secondary School for Girls Wahdat Road, Govt. Comprehensive Higher Secondary School for Boys Ghoray Shah, Govt. Boys High School and Govt. Girls High school Retigen Road.
