LAHORE – Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jahangir on Tuesday welcomed the headway in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) implementation case and termed the prime minister’s directives to the law minister to draft the letter a good omen.

Talking to reporters at the Lahore High Court (LHC), Asma said since long, she had been kept on saying that the letter should have been written much earlier. However, to give more time to government for writing letter to Swiss authorities was a good gesture.

She suggested the Supreme Court to allow the government to complete its constitutional term smoothly so that the next general elections could not be delayed. “I request the superior courts to let the government functionaries do their work now and do not make them stand in the courts for whole day,” she added.

Asma criticised the process of formation of caretaker setup given in the Constitution. She said there was a flaw in the Constitution regarding formation of the caretaker setup, and the removal of this flaw was need of the hour.
