LAHORE – The protest call by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and two religious alliances, Defence of Pakistan Council (DPC) and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), at the same day (September 21) will turn the provincial capital into a major ground for the protests against a profane movie.

The City had already witnessed the forceful protests of Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool (THR) and Majlis Wahdatul Muslemin (MWM) which surrounded the US Consulate on September 17, while Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) had also made its presence felt over the issue.

PTI Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi and Secretary Information Shafqat Mehmood on Tuesday announced that the PTI would hold demonstrations on Friday across the country against the sacrilegious movie.

The government should request a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) on urgent basis to create awareness among the comity of nations to come up with legislations on blasphemy of Prophets and religions to award exemplary punishments to those who become source of hurting the religious sentiments, the PTI leaders demanded.

The PTI leaders proposed that the government should have an agreement with Google on the lines of Malaysia and India, which could block the Google contents whenever it felt necessary.

In a joint statement, the DPC leaders Maulana Samiul Haq, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Syed Munawwar Hasan, Lt Gen (r) Hameed Gul, Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi, Ijazul Haq, Maulana Ameer Hamza and Abdul Rauf Farooqi said the protest campaign would continue beyond the protest day and a series of rallies and Hurmat Rasool marches would be held across the country and first march would be held in Peshawar on Oct 1.

Meanwhile, SIC Chairman Fazal Karim briefing the newsmen following a meeting of the alliance leaders said a countrywide strike would be observed on Friday and a rally would also be taken out in Lahore from Nasir Bagh to GPO Chowk.

He said in the ongoing movement, a train march would be launched on October 14 from Karachi to Rawalpindi to mobilise the public for pressing the rulers to take decisive action against the US to stop the organised blasphemy attempts.
