LAHORE  - Pakistani diplomats should use mango diplomacy in letter and spirit to tap mango potential and ensure a level playing field in high value markets of the world, said business expert and CEO Harvest Trading Ahmad Jawad while talking to APP here on Tuesday. He said that every year new markets were explored but practically exports were not entertained due to procedural hurdles which were not solved at the time of negotiations. Jawad said he had already requested the Australian High Commission in Islamabad and the Australian Department of Agriculture to allow mangoes on hot water treatment from the next year as it was a cheap technology which would help Pakistan export mangoes in bulk. He said South Korea has already approved Pakistani mangoes on hot water treatment. He said the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), USA, should relax policies on the import of Pakistani mangoes as it had favoured Indian products. He added that Pakistani exporters wanted the same favours as others enjoy.Jawad said Japan had lifted a 16-year-old ban on Pakistani mango exports on the personal request of President Asif Ali Zardari during his visit to Japan last year but still Pakistan lost at least $10 million in mango exports to Japan due to some complications last year, which could be removed by special attention of the President.
