KARACHI - The Board of Directors of Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA) in the 18th meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Minister for Fisheries Sindh and KFHA chairman decided to restrict number of crew on fishing boats according to the boat size as mentioned below. Trawler 10-55 feet maximum, crew 20, Gill netter 40-55 feet crew 20, Hora 20-40 feet crew 20, Dhonda 20-30 feet crew 10, Thurki 20-30 feet crew 10.The Board further decided that henceforth no boat will be allowed to go on fishing without life jackets for crew. It was also decided that five plastic crates will be provided by KFHA to Hora Boat and 10 to small boats at Rs1,000 each. It has also been decided that although precautionary steps are being taken by KFHA but existing processing plants to be checked by Civil Defence, Building Control Authority, Environmental Protection Agency, Labour Department to ensure safety measures to avoid any untoward incident.Earlier KFHA Managing Director Abdul Ghani Jokhio briefed the participants of the meeting about the agenda points in detail.
