Islamabad - Military leaders of Iron Brothers – Pakistan and China – on Tuesday resolved to strengthen bilateral cooperation to tackle common security challenges.

This decision was taken in meeting between Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) General Zhang Youxia, said a statement issued here by the ISPR.

According to the statement, Gen Zhang Youxia said that China greatly values its time-tested relations with Pakistan and its Army and added that China looks forward to further expanding this cooperation.

Gen Youxia said that development of CPEC is aimed at bringing more benefits and prosperity to the people of both countries.

The Vice Chairman termed Pak-China military cooperation as an important pillar of bilateral relations. He said that the two militaries should further strengthen this cooperation to safeguard common security challenges.

The generals also discussed areas of further bilateral military cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism, arms and equipment technology, and training.

General Bajwa thanked Vice Chairman for the Chinese support and cooperation. Ambassador of Pakistan in China was also present during the meeting.

On Monday Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa who is on three-day official visit to China also had interaction with his counterpart People’s Liberation Army Chief General Han Weiguo at the PLA headquarters and discussed the regional security.

According to ISPR statement, both commanders discussed regional security environment, security of CPEC and bilateral security cooperation during the meeting.

General Han Weiguo expressed his keen desire to benefit from the Pakistani military’s combat experience.

Chinese Army Chief appreciated high degree of security being provided to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects by the Pakistan Army.

The PLA chief appreciated and acknowledged high professional standing of Pak Army displayed while combating terrorism. He also expressed his desire of expanding cooperation between the two armed forces.

General Qamar thanked his counterpart for hosting him and expressed that both armies have history of cooperation and there are vast avenues for further enhancing the same.

The Pakistani army chief was presented guard of honour upon arrival at PLA headquarters earlier today.
