RAWALPINDI - The Airport Security Force on Thursday shot down a drone which was filming the New Islamabad International Airport, sources informed The Nation.

The ASF also took into custody three Chinese nationals who were operating the drone and recording the video of the airport, they added.

According to the sources, a staffer of ASF was on routine security duty at the New Islamabad International Airport when he spotted a drone hovering over the airport. He immediately shot down the drone and seized the wreckage, they said.

Later on, he reported the matter to the higher authorities who sprang into action following the incident and took three Chinese nationals who were involved in recording video of the airport, they added.

There were some unconfirmed reports that the ASF called Attock police and handed the Chinese nationals to them for further investigation.

However, District Police Officer Attock Ibadat Nisar, when contacted, said they were Chinese workers working at the New Islamabad International Airport.

“We have not arrested the Chinese nationals as they have not done anything illegal,” he added.

Meanwhile, the sound of gunshot created panic at the airport as other law enforcement agencies also came into action and beefed up security inside and outside the airport.
