Efforts are underway to introduce another variety of cotton at the University College of Agriculture, Islamia University of Bahawalpur which will fully suit the climatic conditions of the area.

This variety of cotton can grow under hot and climate with less irrigation and powerful resistance against various virus, said Dr Iqbal Bandesha during a briefing on the visit of IUB/GSCWU Vice Chancellor Dr Saleem Tariq Khan.

The VC inspected the newly introduced variety of cotton on experimental basis at Agriculture Farm of the university and appreciated the efforts of the researchers and experts of the university. He said that agriculture is the backbone of the economy and cotton is the major crop of the country. He stressed maximum steps for the promotion of cotton growth to further improve the economy.

He expressed a hope that the cotton variety would prove to be good gift for the growers of the area. Later, he visited the Molicular Breeding Lab of the college and checked the ongoing facilities and working.

Deans Dr Asghar Hashmi, Dr Mehmood Ahmed, Muhammad Ali Wallana, Dr Karamat Mehmood, Dr Rao Muhammad Afzal, Dr Javed Hussan Chandio, Irshad Ahmed Rashid, Tareef Ali Khan, Rana Ashraf Ali, cotton experts, Dr Manzoor Ahmed and Dr Muhammad Dilbagh were also present.
