LAHORE - The Pakistan Football Federation has approved four cities for second National Women Football Club Championship, slated to commence from Tuesday, June 23. According to newly-appointed PFF Women Wing Administrator Hurria Hussein, nineteen participants are being divided in four groups - two groups having four teams, one group having six teams and one group comprising five teams. The top teams of each group will travel into four-team final phase as well as earning berths in fifth edition of National Championship in August 2009. "Considering the reality that football is being played less in girls' schools and women colleges, the appearance of 19 teams in second National Women Club Championship is a great achievement for the PFF, which is due to Makhdoom Faisal Hayats efforts and his devotion with football," said PFF Women Wing's Chairperson Robina Irfan who further added that clubs play an important role in promoting games, so womens clubs will be developed at every city and the PFF will provide technical support and guidance on a regular basis to club's management. "The six clubs of Sindh will form 15-match Group-B whose matches will be played at Karachi's Aga Khan Hospital Ground and Colony Sports Stadium. Diya Club, who have the honor of playing soccer in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, will be among participants alongwith Karachi Kickers, Colony Sports and three new comers Hyderabad FC, Aurora FC and Karachi FC," said Berlin-born Hurria who replaced former Lady Administrator Aqeela Rehman last month. Former student and sportwomen of Lahore College for Women University and University of Punjab, Hurria added that Lahore-based Group-C is comprised of 2007 National Champions Punjab University's Sports Sciences, Fatima Club and two debutants Model Town FC and Layyah's Young Rising Star FC who will show their display at Punjab University, Old Campus Ground on 1 Cust Road near M.A.O College. Group-A had been awarded to Quetta which will host first-ever Women Football match under jurisdiction of PFF. All ten matches will be held at Govt. Degree College Cantt with the participants being Balochistan United, Quetta Junior, Roshni Club, Rasko Club and Chiltan Club.
