LAHORE - PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has said that the government needs to develop national consensus on the overwhelming crisis. The whole nation including media, civil society, technocrats, Ulema and other fraternities must be taken on board to bring the country out of crisis. He was addressing a party meeting at Raiwind. Nawaz also met different delegations, which called on him on Friday. Elucidating the root cause of the increased crime rate, militancy and extremism, the PML-N Quaid said, Extremism and militancy are the by-products of dictatorship. He said an important aspect of increase in crime rate was the lack of good governance and non-existence of accountability. People lose their trust in government and its institutions when we avoid penalizing those who commit crimes against nation and country. Even we do not punish those who abrogate the Constitution of the country. He said the militancy could not be exterminated and the trend to commit crimes not be changed, until and unless the influential people were brought to the court. Nawaz deplored that the whole nation was suffering only due to the dictators, who violated the Constitution. The despots did not bother to abide by the state laws. They were never questioned for their misdeeds. He said the wrong policies of Gen (r) Musharaf played havoc with the people, especially in NWFP and Balochistan provinces. The former Prime Minister again vowed to keep on the efforts till the genuine democracy was restored in letters and spirit. He said that there would be no discrimination and everyone would be provided with equal opportunities to learn, earn and grow. The PML-N believes in the sovereignty of the Parliament, and wishes that all decisions be made by the elected representatives of the nation, he added. The PML-N Quaid said that his party was striving to remove the complexities from the judicial system so that the people could have easy and hassle-free access to justice. The epicentre of our struggle is to uphold the supremacy of Constitution, ensure rule of law, social justice and equitable distribution of wealth between the people and even the provinces, Nawaz maintained. Talking about the internally displaced people (IDPs) of Swat and Malakand, ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said, Help to the IDPs is our first and top priority. We shall never leave them in lurch during this bitter situation. He reiterated that the PML-N and Punjab government would envisage full support to the IDPs until the last individual returned to his home safely. Nawaz once again appealed to the whole nation to extend generous support to those who were suffering merely to secure the future of whole Pakistani nation.
