KARACHI - Two political activists were among thirteen gunned down in separate incidents of targeted killing and violence here on Sunday. As per details, a body of an MQM activist carrying torture marks was found from Kakri Ground in the limits of Kharadar police station. The victim was identified as Feroz, son of Iqbal. Police said the man had recently shifted to Agra Tajj Colony from North Karachi and was affiliated with MQM Unit 136, North Karachi Sector. Unidentified men kidnapped him on Saturday and later threw his body at the place on Sunday. Police found his body in a sack on the information by the residents. The deceased was tortured and his hands and legs were broke before being shot dead. Another body of an MQM man was found from the Ghans Mandi in Old City area. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital for legal formalities and later handed over to the family. The deceased was identified as Shahid Bali, 36, son of Bilal. The victim was said to be associated with the MQM Baldia Town Unit 114. Sources said that this man was too was tortured before he was shot dead. In Lyari, three young men were found dead in Kalakot police precincts. Police said that they found the bodies of the three young men aged between 25 to 30 years in sacks from Old Haji Camp on the information from the locals. SHO Babar Hameed said that two of them wore trousers and shirts and one wore Shalwar Qameez. Victims were brutally tortured before they were killed. Separately, a gangster killed by firing an elderly man and injured over half a dozen people before shooting himself to death at Lyaris Rangiwara within the limits of Chakiwara police station. Police said that the 35-year-old killer Chand Zaib was affiliated with a group of Lyaris gangsters and was also a drug addict. Affected by drugs, he came out of his house and opened indiscriminate firing with a Kalashnikov rifle, injuring at least eight people, the police said. Police officials quoting the witnesses said that the murderer later shot himself and died at the spot. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital who included Yasir Akhtar, 23, Imam Buksh, 70, Abdul Majeed, 50, Mohammad Nazar, 40, Majid Raheem, 30, Ghulam Rasool, 25, Rafaqat, 34 and Gulzar, 32. One of the victims, namely Imam Buksh later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital during treatment. In another drive-by shooting, a 48-year-old man identified as Rafiq, son of Haji Mohammad was gunned down in Agra Tajj Colony in jurisdiction of Kalri Police. SHO Zahid Tanoli said that the victim used to run a cooking oil shop adjacent to his house and was sitting in his shop when at least four armed men riding two motorcycles came and opened fire. As a result, he sustained multiple bullets injuries and died shortly after the incident. The officer said that victim belonged to Katchi community and his family said he had no affiliation with any party. However, police sources said that the initial investigation suggested that Lyaris gangsters killed him over suspicion of being an informant. Separately, police found a decomposed body of a man from Khajji Ground in the Rizvia Police jurisdiction. Police officials said that the body was rapped in a cloth and was nearly one month old. They said that, apparently, the culprits also threw acid on the victim. The body was shifted to morgue after autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). Another body in a bag of was found near Bacha Khan Chowk in Pirabad Colony No. 1 in the jurisdiction of Pirabad Police. Police said that the victims body had several torture marks and the assailants shoot him twice after torture. The body was shifted to morgue for identification after legal formalities at ASH. In Manghopir Police jurisdiction, a body of an unidentified man was found near the Northern Bypass. Police said that the unidentified men shot and killed the victim. No case was registered till the filling of this report. In the limits of New Karachi Industrial Area Police, gunmen shot dead a 40-year-old man named Mohammad Hussain alias Ehsan Munna near Nala Stop. Police said the victim was going somewhere on a motorcycle when unidentified armed men shot and killed him. Police said that at least eight cases of crime were registered against the deceased in New Karachi police station and he was presently running his private business and resided in North Karachi. In Nazimabad, one security guard was killed and another was wounded when they were on-duty near Gol Market. The victims were taken to ASH where one Iqbal, 32 succumbed to his injuries during treatment while another Afaq, 55, was admitted to hospital. Police said that the victims were standing side by side when a bullet was fired mistakenly by one of them that hit them both.
