Our Staff Reporter MULTAN - District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zahid Akhtar Zaman has issued order for launching crackdown on elements involved in manufacturing and trading counterfeit fertilisers and pesticides here on Saturday. Chairing a meeting of district task force for fertiliser and pesticide, he asked officials concerned to launch a grand operation against the traders selling fake pesticides and fertilizer or involved on overpricing. He said that those selling fake pesticides and fertilizers were enemies of country and they would not be let go scot-free. He said that no one would be allowed to exploit the farmers. He said that adulteration and hoarding were evils and Islam strictly prohibited both the practices. He said that the dealers would not be allowed to commit over charging and all out measures would be adopted to ensure availability of fertilizer at control rate. He directed assistant commissioners to impose heavy fines on profiteers and send those to the jail who were selling fake pesticides. He further asked them to locate the dealers involved in trading of fake fertilizer and launch an indiscriminate crackdown without accepting any pressure. He said that the cases lodged against dealers of fake pesticides and fertilizer would be pursued properly. EDO agriculture Sardar Muhammad Akbar told the meeting that the campaign against profiteers was underway and four dealers were fined Rs15,000 each. He said that 21 cases were currently in the court against fake pesticide and fertilizer manufacturers while 18 others were being probed by police.
