At least six persons including a child were injured in a gas cylinder blast in a mechanical workshop here in Karachi on Monday. According to police the acetylene gas cylinder used for welding purposes exploded in a mechanical workshop located at basement of a residential house in Steel Town of Gulshan-e-Iqbal area near Quaid-e-Azam Park. The shop where the blast took place was razed to ground while five shops and a residential house in the vicinity of the blast site were also damaged. Heavy contingent of police, rangers and rescue personnel reached the scene and started rescue operation. The rescue personnel dug out five injured from the rubble of collapsed workshop while another person was injured in the nearby residential house. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment from where three persons with serious wounds were moved to Jinnah Hospital. The locals said that it was high intensity blast that created panic and fear in the area and people rushed out of their houses. However after knowing about the nature of the blast the people returned back to their homes.
