ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan would issue official notification of returning candidates in the general elections on 22 May.

ECP has asked the independent candidates, who remained successful in the elections to submit a certificate to concerned District Returning Officer regarding their affiliation with any political party till May 25 whereas all the newly elected MNAs and MPAs are also directed to present their details of elections' expenditures till May 21, failing which their notification would not be issued.

According to the constitution, a candidate would submit his detail of expenditure to the Election Commission within 10 days after elections, whereas independent candidates are either required to join any political party in the parliament or retain his independent status after three days from the issuance of notification.  Meanwhile, The Election Commission has unfrozen voters lists across the country and restored clause 18 of electoral rules.  After restoration of clause 18, new voters can be included and they can get lists changed. It may be noted here that ECP had frozen voters lists following the announcement of election schedule on March 22.
