The fresh bout of crippling electricity loadshedding coupled with hot weather has been testing the patience of people as they are compelled to pass restless days and sleepless night in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Satrah, Chawinda, Badiana and surrounding areas.

As per detail, in this hot summer, the Gepco stepped up the duration of electricity loadshedding from 16 to 20 and 22 hours which have paralyzed almost all the social, business and civic activities. On the other hand, the traders said that unbearable 22 hours long loadshedding of electricity had brought life to a grinding halt. While the local perturbed people said that the supply of electricity remained suspended for 22 hours (almost the whole of last night and whole of the day Sunday). However, the Gepco officials concerned denied any role in the long hour outages, saying that the power supply remained suspended from Islamabad. Meanwhile, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) have rejected the recent massive 5.80 percent hike in power tariff by Nepra, saying that this increase would prove a blow for the Sialkot industries which are already on the verge of collapse due to uncontrolled worst energy crisis.

Talking to the newsmen here, SCCI President Sheikh Abdul Majid expressed grave concern over the hike in power tariff by Nepra, demanding immediate withdrawal of this increase, in the larger interest f the general public and especially the business community of the country.

In ATTOCK, unscheduled and prolonged electricity loadshedding has paralysed routine life while businessmen are the worst hit as their business has come to almost a stand still.

Long hour power outages stretching to almost 16 to 18 hours on daily basis has disturbed routine life. Those running bakeries, hotels, photo shops, photo copier business and tailoring shops are bearing the brunt. Edibles store in refrigerators become stale while bakeries proprietors are also suffering a lot as their precious items kept in freezers become stale and useless. The businessmen are passing through great crisis because of loadshedding and they are even unable meet their routine expenses leave alone taking profit. They lamented that the prolonged loadshedding was beyond comprehension which had mentally-disturbed the masses who are becoming psycho patients. Students are also facing problem as they cannot get their breakfast in time. Loadshedding during night has deprived people of sound sleep thus they become unable to perform their routine duties due of lack of sleep. People from different walks of life said that the PPP government had ruined all the major departments of the country, adding that mercilessly plunder and rampant corruption had made the public life a living hell. They declared that if these were the fruits of democracy then they did not need such democracy.
