ISLAMABAD:  The WAPDA is making all possible efforts to complete 969 MW-Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project according to its construction schedule in 2016. Official sources told APP here that the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project, besides generating the much-needed hydel electricity, was also of immense importance for Pakistan to establish priority water rights. The project on its completion will contribute 5.15 billion units of  low-cost electricity to the national grid every year and its annual benefits have been estimated at about Rs 45 billion, they said.

Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work, they said that

the project was also helping in the socio-economic uplift of the local populace by providing them job opportunities and boosting other economic activities in the area.

The sources said that both tunnel boring machines (TBMs) specially imported from Germany, had already been made functional on the project site and the work was progressing satisfactorily.
