a trader was killed during a broad daylight robbery for putting up resistance here, his relatives and traders staged a protest demonstration against the police apathy.

Muhammad Afzal was present at his shop on Circular Road at about 8:00am. Meanwhile, an armed motorcyclist held him at gunpoint and tried to loot his shop but the former offered resistance. As a reaction, the robber shot at him and managed to escape. Afzal was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

In wake of the trader’s killing, the traders gathered at Chishtian Road and staged demonstration. They set fire to old tyres and threw the traffic out of gear for about one hour and also chanted slogans against the police failure to protect the citizens’ life and property.

Traders’ representatives including Abdul Rehaman Qureshi, Sheikh Anwar, Sheikh Akhtar made a call of shutdown against the incident. It was learnt that the police reached the spot two hours late. The city circles expressed their apprehension over increasing number of robberies across the district. A couple of days ago, another robbery was committed in the limits of Donga Bonga police and the FIR of the incident is yet to be registered.
