National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has hurled another bomb on citizens of Faisalabad and Multan by approving an increase of Rs. 4.29 per unit in the power tariffs of Northern Power Generation Company (NPGC). According to the NEPRA, under the fuel adjustment, the tariffs of NPGC's Multan were hiked by Rs. 4.29 per unit. On the other hand Faisalabad tariffs were raised by 31 paisas per unit. Tariffs of Muzaffargarh were raised by 37 paisas. Meanwhile, officials of Sui Northern Gas Company Ltd have said it gas supply to industries would be cut off under an agreement from December to February; otherwise, the worst gas crisis will surface in Punjab during winter. Under the arrangement, 750 million cubic feet will be saved daily. However, the agreement is not being implemented for two years now. Citizens have expressed grave concern over the massive increase in NPGC tariffs and announcement of gas loadshedding during upcoming winter. They were of the view that NEPRA was paying no attention towards consumer's sufferings and its all attention was devoted to putting additional burden on the consumers for the failures of the generating and distribution companies.
