LAHORE The Annual Technical Conference 2011, being jointly organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Pakistan Association of Petroleum Geoscientists (PAPG), will be held in Islamabad on November 22-23, 2011, says a press release. The theme of the conference is Energy security through indigenous resources. Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain will inaugurate the conference, whereas Jaap Huikskes, CEO of one of the leading European E&P companies, will deliver the keynote address. The meeting of all CEOs and representatives of various companies was held in Islamabad. The objective of meeting was to brief the participants about the arrangements of the conference. The chairman of the conference, Abdul Wahid Chughtai briefed the participants about the conference programme. He expressed his gratitude to all the representatives of E&P companies and service providers for the financial and technical support for organising the conference. It was explained to the participant that it is the only premier event of Pakistans petroleum industry in which professionals from E&P companies, academia and service providers will present their technical papers, application of innovative technology and share experience. This forum will provide excellent opportunity to academia to directly interact with industry and discuss the prevailing technical issues and problems. Shale gas is the new area which needs to be exploited in different parts of the country. Due to its importance, one-day special course for the exploitation of Shale gas will be arranged ahead of the conference. The professionals and academia will be invited to attend this course. Panel discussion is another important feature of the conference in which representatives of Ministry of Petroleum, provinces and CEOs of companies operating in different area of the country will discuss the prevailing issues. More than 100 delegates from the 16 universities have been invited and student papers contest has also been arranged. SPE and PAPG have student chapter in all universities of Pakistan and the objective is to create healthy activities in the institutions. SPE Chairman Dr Saeed Khan Jadoon and Muhammad Zafarullah, on behalf of PAPG chairman, briefed about the role of their respective organisations and assured their full support to the conference.
